- For clarity reasons I will for the most part call the people by their name instead of by mom and dad or grandma and grandpa. I was trying to explain some of what I found to Jack and he had to stop me because all the Grandma’s and Grandpa’s were running together. So I will try to be more careful to call grandparents by their first name.
- A lot of the conclusions I have come up with especially about Elmer’s father are going to be educated guesses unless we can find a DNA link. Which I am hoping for.
- When looking at documents or forms from the 1800’s and early 1900’s spellings of names change and sometime the name itself changes slightly. The birth and death dates are not consistent from one document to the other. I googled to see why this happened and it is because of illiteracy and the people writing it on the forms were doing it phonetically. Google also said people did not worry about birthdays that much and just didn’t always remember it. So you will see many discrepancies in the documents.
- Name spellings for Wininger are:
- The Winkel name has a couple different spellings, the ones most of us have had to deal with our whole life. Andy’s father will play a big part in this story and his name starts out as John Andrew Winkels or Winkles. At some point he drops the s which seems to be a common thing people did.
- Later in the blog post we will be researching the Grisham name, this one has several different spellings.
